2nd Annual Hopewell Valley 5K: March 16th

The date and theme for this year’s Hopewell Valley 5K has just been announced. Get ready to lace up your running shoes and put on your greenest gear to try and catch the Leprechaun in this year’s “Lucky Bulldog Dash” on Saturday, March 16th!

This year’s race will kick off at the high school and run down Dublin Rd and back for an Irish adventure to find the ultimate Pot O’ Gold at the finish line in front of Timberlane. Winners in age group categories will walk away with a chocolate prize. Prizes will also be awarded for the best team and individual St. Patrick’s theme costumes. There will also be a special prize for anyone who can catch the Leprechaun.

This is a great course to kick off your running season or just to get outside with the community and beat those winter blues – maybe do a little Irish jig along the way. We can’t wait to see you there.

Please see the flyer below for details. Please encourage your kids, friends and neighbors to run or walk the course with us. For those of you in the running community, this event is USATF sanctioned and available for 500 Grand Prix points.

We are still looking for race sponsors. Please email Lynne Nau if you would like to be a sponsor or would like to connect the event organizers with potential sponsors.

Digital Wellness Initiative Update

If you missed the webinar, The Download on Device Adoption: The Skills Your Children Need Before Getting a Smartphone, or want to rewatch or share it, here's the link to the recording. The conversation combined personal experience (each of the panelists is a parent!) with practical expert advice about the many considerations that go into decisions about devices in the home. Kids go online through gaming platforms and iPads long before they have cellphones, so our discussion focused on engaging them in ongoing conversations about the best ways to communicate online—a process that works best if it's started long before kids are handed their own fully connected device. Most useful for parents and caregivers of kids in grades K-6, but all are welcome to view the recording.

The hour featured a lively discussion with Common Sense's Head of Research Amanda Lenhart, Common Sense's Director of Family Engagement & Partnerships Jasmine Hood Miller, and Devorah Heitner, PhD, author of Growing Up in Public: Coming of Age in a Digital World. For related resources, visit the Digital Wellness Initiative.

Membership Toolkit Directory Information

In alignment with the Hopewell School District, the Bear Tavern PTO will continue to use Membership Toolkit for our Student Directory and Communications for the 2022-2023 school year.

Once you update your Membership Toolkit Account you will have access to the directory, PTO newsletters, donation links, volunteer opportunities, and much more.

You must update your information every year to be included in the directory! For those families who have children attending other Hopewell Schools, you will need to update your information for each school that your children attend.

Here's how:

  1. LOGIN at https://www.beartavernpto.com. (You must login with the email address where this newsletter arrived.) Once the Primary Account is set up, the Primary User can "invite" other email addresses to access the account.  This allows the Secondary User to have their own login information, but still have access to the family account.
  2. For those who are new to Membership Toolkit, please follow these instructions:
    1. Go to https://www.beartavernpto.com.
    2. Click on the Register/Login button.
    3. Select "New User".
    4. Select "Create Account" and fill in your name, email (please use the email where this newsletter arrived), and password.
    5. Click "verify my email" and then check your email for a link to complete the process. The link expires within 2 hours. If you do not receive the email, check your spam or junk folders.
    6. Once you have verified your email address, log back in and finish the 3 step registration process.
  3. Complete the Parent/Family and Student Information.
  4. Complete the Directory/Publish Preferences. By marking active, you are allowing other Bear Tavern families to see whatever contact information you choose to share. This is a great feature to foster friendships with playdates, birthday parties, etc.
